Rocket Tracking Telescope

  • What I did:

    • Wrote the Capstone proposal for a telescope-based tracking mount, defining the project parameters and operational constraints

    • Designed the initial system structure and sub-system structures

    • Designed optical train for afocal-photography-based focal length adjustment and zoom

    • Designed and built automated focus and zoom system

    • Created optical flow-based launch detection algorithm

    • As a member of the project team, further developed system design

    • Manually machined project components

    • Coordinated budget use (finding new ways to reduce cost by establishing relations with campus surplus, improving inventory of existing rocketry hardware)

    • Cast and machined large structural component for a capstan drive
